An overview of parliamentary discussions on boosting Cameroon's tourism sector through agricultural integration — tea plantations, cotton fields, and community-based agro-tourism projects.
Recent sessions in the Cameroon Senate have highlighted a growing focus on the intersection of tourism and agriculture. Senators are increasingly advocating for "Agro-tourism" as a sustainable way to diversify the economy and promote rural development across the country.
Strategic Priorities
Discussions center on improving infrastructure to major agricultural hubs that also serve as tourist attractions — tea plantations in the West and Southwest, cotton fields in the North, cocoa and coffee estates in the Centre and Littoral regions. By linking these sectors, the government aims to create new rural jobs and increase local revenue while offering visitors unique agricultural experiences.
Challenges Identified
Senators pointed out the need for better security in certain regions and more robust marketing strategies to attract international visitors. The "Africa in Miniature" brand is being expanded to include the rich agricultural diversity of the country — adding farm visits, harvest experiences, and agricultural festivals to the tourism portfolio.
Global Bush Travel already offers agro-tourism experiences including visits to tea estates, cocoa plantations, and coffee farms as part of customized Cameroon itineraries.
